Research projects

As well as producing the Australian Dictionary of Biography and its companion websites, Obituaries Australia and People Australia, staff at the National Centre of Biography are currently involved in a number of research projects.

First Nations Biography Australia

First Nations Biography Australia (FNBA) is a five-year project that aims to contribute 300 new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander biographies to the ADB.

The Biographical Dictionary of the House of Representatives provides biographies of its Speakers, Deputy Speakers and Clerks since Federation.

Great Expectations: Sydney College 1835-50

Great Expectations: Sydney College 1835-50 is a biographical study of the 843 boys who attended Sydney College, the forerunner of Sydney Grammar, during the years of its existence, 1835-1850. We are also investigating the boys partners and their parents.

Colonial Women Project

The Colonial Women Project seeks to add 1,500 new entries for women who flourished during or prior to the colonial period to the ADB.

Colonial Beginnings

In collaboration with the Fellowship of First Fleeters, Colonial Beginnings will add records for all ‘fleeters' and their families to the online biographical register People Australia.
