Abstract

It is with sadness that we report the death, in July, of the Australian Dictionary of Biography’s first employee, Ann Moyal. We have included Ann’s report of her 1959 road trip taken around the country to drum up support for the Dictionary.

You can also read Barry Jones’s reflective ‘Introduction’ to the 2020 edition of his Dictionary of World Biography, published by the NCB and ANU Press. Tom Griffiths muses on the nature of dictionaries of biography in his launch speech for True Biographies of Nations? The Cultural Journeys of Dictionaries of National Biography, edited by Karen Fox. Colin Nettelbeck brings us news about a new French-Australian biographical dictionary.
