Abstract

We farewell two of our staff, Pam Crichton and Barbara Dawson; have news of a symposium on turning theses into books, nominate our 'favourite' obituary of the year from those which were entered into Obituaries Australia, and have details about Richard Harrison's ambitious project to create a Database of Australian Elites which, when complete, will cover the period from 1788 to 1972.  Pam Crichton, who usually edits ADB entries, describes what it was likely writing one – on Gladys Sutcliffe.
