Ken Cable’s beautifully written obituary for historian Hazel King (1908-1997) was added to Obituaries Australia today. It was not until she was 40 years of age that Hazel got the chance to enrol for undergraduate studies at the University of Sydney. She discovered a passion for Australian history and, after completing further studies at Oxford University, returned to Sydney University as an academic. She was also to play a major role in the Royal Australian Historical Society, editing its journal for many years and eventually taking on the role of president. An Australian Dictionary of Biography entry is being prepared for Hazel. Her father, Kelso King, grandfather George King, aunt Georgina King and half-sister Olive King have entries in the ADB.
