Thesis title: Second fleet women, first rate survivors
I have been drawn to writing biographies both for the complex and inspiring nature of the human spirit and also for its intimate lens on a period of time, people, and place. Biography gives us a unique and personalised perspective on history. It is a genre that has long fascinated me. My latest project with the ANU is my third book length biogrpahy, which I am undertaking as part of my PhD. In addition tho this I have written a number of mini-biographies for various people, I have written mini-biographies for various people, I have also written a number of corporate histories (company biographies) for the likes of Fortescue Metals Group, Wagners, and Lendlease.
Biography, Women’s history, Australian History
My PhD explores the early years of Australian settlement through women’s perspective. Using the biographies of a number of women who sailed with the Second Fleet on board the ship Neptune, my objective is to uncover how Australia’s first European women coped, survived and prospered.
