Grant success for Crawford biography
Friday 28 June 2013

Following the award of an ARC Linkage Grant, two members of the School of History, Nicholas Brown and Frank Bongiorno, will lead a research team to write the biography of Sir John Crawford. A leading figure in the history of the ANU, Crawford was also central to the transformation of public policy, economic analysis and research in Australia from the 1930s to the 1980s. Beyond his national prominence, he was among the most well-known and respected Australians of his generation in the Asia-Pacific region, and the international community, for his work on aid, development and the ‘green revolution’. With Stuart Macintyre (University of Melbourne), David Lee (DFAT) and Denis Blight (Crawford Fund), Brown and Bongiorno will offer the first full study of the life, work and context of a figure who significantly influenced many aspects of Australian national building, and international collaboration.
