Canberra is the capital city of Australia. It is picturesquely nestled alongside Australia’s highest alpine mountains and the South East Coast of New South Wales, inland between the cities of Sydney and Melbourne, within the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) which is surrounded by New South Wales (NSW).

Canberra is home to Australia’s parliament and national cultural institutions – it is often dubbed ‘the home of the Australian story’.

It is also a dynamic city with a thriving food, wine, arts and business scene that delights in welcoming visitors.

Getting here

Canberra is less than two hours flying from eastern Australian cities like Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Daily domestic flights are available to and from Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth and multiple daily domestic flights to and from Sydney and Melbourne. International flights to Canberra from Singapore and Wellington, New Zealand are available with Singapore Airlines. More about flying to Canberra.

Canberra is a three hour drive from Sydney and eight hours from Melbourne, with scenic route alternatives and many country towns to visit along the way. More about driving to Canberra.
