Talking and Listening in the Age of Modernity
A one-day conference convened by Professor Desley Deacon and Professor Joy Damousi (University of Melbourne). Scholars from throughout Australia used this interdisciplinary one-day conference to explore the cultural meanings of the auditory and its relationship to isues such as modernity, gender, race and sexuality. The conference investigated themes such as speech, sound, music, voice and technologies of sound in radio and film.
