This award aims to recognise the exceptional mentorship skills of a staff member who has a mentorship role for other staff and/or postgraduate students.

Carolyn Strange was chosen from 13 candidates across the College of Arts and Social Sciences to receive the CASS Mentor of the Year award for 2012. Her nominations came from the School of History, the Research School of Humanities and Arts, the College of Asia and Pacific, the Research Students Development Centre, and the College of Science.

She has been recognised for her work as a mentor to many staff and students in the School of History and across the College. From PhD students, to new staff, to early career academics, to colleagues in general, she has been a willing mentor. She has been recognized for her proactive approach to mentoring and supporting colleagues and her commitment to excellence and to sharing the benefits of her experiences with others.

Carolyn Strange is the Graduate Director, School of History at the Australian National University. She has published widely in modern Canadian, U.S. and Australian history, primarily in the fields of criminal justice and gender history.
