Book Launch: Never Stand Still

Book Launch: Never Stand Still
Wednesday 1 May 2013

Dr Malcolm Allbrook, a researcher in the School of History at the Australian National University has described the new book Never Stand Still by prominent Kimberley Elder John Darraga Watson as a collaborative life writing project. Dr Allbrook is editor of the book which also features the striking images of award winning photographer Liz Thompson.

Launched on 20April by Aboriginal leader Wayne Bergman at a ceremony at Jarlmadanagah community, 140 kilometres south east of Derby, Never Stand Still is the story of John Darraga's extraordinary life growing up on Mt Anderson Station  as a child station labourer in the 1930's and '40s, as head stockman on Nerrima and Jubilee, and his later life as a spokesman for Kimberley Aboriginal people in their battle to gain equal rights and win back their traditional country.

Vividly illustrated with historical and contemporary images, this is the story of a man who has never stood still. ‘This is my voice, and I am talking out, putting our story and how we feel, for all you people to remember.’
