Kiera Donnelly is research editor for the Australian Dictionary of Biography. Kiera, a Bundjalung and Gumbaynggir woman who grew up in Sydney, was appointed as a VC supported Indigenous Australian research officer in March 2020 when she joined the NCB. In that same year she submitted her PhD at the University of Sydney, where she had also completed her BA (Hons). Her PhD thesis was titled ‘Dating the Life of Saint Chad: A Review of the Evidence with a Critical Edition and Translation’, which examined how linguistic and vocabulary evidence can be used to date Old English texts in the case of the Life of Saint Chad where the composition date has been questioned in recent scholarship.

Kiera’s research interests include early medieval English language and linguistics, the history of English language, scholarly editing, and saints’ lives and homilies. She will be expanding her research into Australian Indigenous languages and linguistics.
