Why do First Nations people continue to be history’s outsiders?

In their recent article in the Conversation, Ann McGrath and Lynette Russell raise the question “Why have Indigenous peoples become History’s outsiders?”. Their newly published volume The Routledge Companion to Indigenous Global History demonstrates how Indigenous cultures the world over had their own methods of maintaining History - story telling, art, ritual, dance and song - which many cultures still practice today.
