Joshua Black: New publication in the Australian Historical Studies Journal
Thursday 27 October 2022
Congratulations to HDR student, Josh Black, who has just published an article in Australian Historical Studies: "Unemployed Breadwinners’ and ‘Working Mothers’: Male Breadwinner Nostalgia and the 1990s Recession in Australia" examines popular discourses about men, women and work in Australia during the early 1990s recession. Drawing on contemporary anonymised testimonies captured in social psychologist Hugh Mackay’s quarterly reports, along with statistical and media sources, Joshua argues that the recession reinvigorated a discourse of male breadwinner nostalgia.
