Book on the history of the Antarctic Treaty System wins award
Friday 26 October 2012
Australia and the Antarctic Treaty System: 50 Years of Influence (UNSW Press), edited by Marcus Haward and Tom Griffiths, has been named a joint winner in the category of Tertiary Scholarly Resource in the Australian Educational Publishing Awards 2012. The co-winner in this category was Australian Poetry Since 1788, edited by Geoffrey Lehmann and Robert Gray. The winners were announced at an award ceremony in Melbourne in September. The book on the Antarctic Treaty System was written as part of an ARC Discovery Project that brought together a team of scholars and practitioners from the ANU, the University of Tasmania, the Australian Antarctic Division and other institutions to analyse Australia's influence in Antarctic policy and practice over the fifty years of the Treaty. The book was launched earlier this year in Hobart and was available to delegates at the meeting of the the annual 'Antarctic Parliament' (the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting) which was hosted by Australia in June.
