Dr Emily Gallagher's book Playtime: A history of Australian childhood (La Trobe, 2025) has been shortlisted for not one but two awards this month.
The W.K. Hancock Prize is awarded to an Australian scholar for a first scholarly book in any field of history. The winner will be announced at the Australian Historical Association's conference in a few weeks' time.
Playtime has also been shortlisted in the nonfiction category of the ACT Literary Awards. The winner will be announced on 2 July.
Congratulations and good luck Emily!
