Paul Arthur will be visiting professor and Dr R. Marika Chair of Australian Studies at the University of Cologne, Germany from October 2013. Funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the position encourages research travel within Europe and building of links between Australia and Europe for a period of up to six months. Paul will teach courses on Australian literature and history as well as on digital history and digital humanities. He will be keynote speaker at biography and life writing conferences in Estonia and Austria and visit universities in Ukraine, Turkey, Germany, Netherlands and UK.

Paul is currently on a one-year secondment from the School of History to the rotating position of deputy director of the ANU Centre for European Studies, the major national and regional hub for research on and engagement with Europe, which since April 2013 has been based in the Research School of Social Sciences. ANUCES is a jointly funded initiative of the European Commission and the ANU, supported by four ANU Colleges including CASS. In 2013 the Centre’s focus is on the arts and social sciences.
