The recent publication of Dr Patricia O’Brien’s biography of Samoan political activist Ta’isi O.F. Nelson has attracted great attention in Samoa. Dr O’Brien, an ARC Future Fellow with the School of History, has written a powerful book which engages with major concepts of colonialism and empire while also connecting directly to local communities and contemporary Samoan identity.
